The Saggy Baggy Sofa

This sofa (or couch, I prefer the latter term, but 'sofa' had a better ring to it for today's blog title) has been a staple in our household for the last 15 years.

It has provided a comfy cozy place to curl up with a blanket while watching a movie, the perfect nap spot on a rainy afternoon and a great nesting place on a weekend morning to park it while leisurely drinking coffee.

As the boys grow, it has become evident that the couch is no longer such a great locale for all 4 of us to congregate. Two adults fighting for space with two pairs of long gangly legs sprawled on a short-ish couch is becoming quite a challenge. And now beware when you sit down as the cushions will try to suck you down into a sinkhole. Let's just say the springs have sprung.

And then there is Chili's endless fascination with the little tendrils of material hanging down from underneath the couch. She quickly discovered that that if you can grab a good hold of some of those threads, pretty soon a whole bunch of fluffy felt material with break free. Mix that with some doggy slobber and you've got yourself a chewy, pasty, tasty canine treat.

Thanks to Chili's tenacious chewing efforts, there is now a large gaping abyss under our couch where the lining has ripped away.

Recently we made the exciting discovery that there is a whole other habitat existing just below the cushions. Imagine our surprise to discover dirty old socks of yore, crusty Apple Jack crumbs, pencils, a broken mini blind wand, a glow stick, a magazine, a flash light, a Grizzly Bear bookmark, random pieces of chalk, a rubber band bracelet, miscellaneous fabric threads and lint balls, and, lo, Mason's long lost DSI!

Yes it is a veritable smorgasbord of treasures strewn inside the raggedy interior. Who knew?

William decided to dig deeper and go on a more extensive search because, heck, who knows what else might turn up?

And. Then. The single most exciting discovery of all...

My long lost iTouch! It has been missing for over two years! Imagine the boys' excitement at the new electronic device they have now inherited.

And? Tucked away in the bowels of our creaky old couch appeared two glowing eyes peering out from the darkness. Indeed, Lola our kitty had decided to take up residence inside the couch as well.

That explains why Chili has been going bonkers trying unsuccessfully to squeeze herself underneath to join in a game of hide and seek.

Don't you worry, this quality piece of furniture won't be put out of its misery just yet-apparently there's still quite a bit of life left in it.

Literally!
